Testing task: Read unchecked menu item checkbox in interaction mode

With JAWS in interaction mode, describe how JAWS behaves when performing task " Read the 'Italic' menu item checkbox"

Test instructions

  1. Restore default settings for JAWS. For help, read Configuring Screen Readers for Testing.
  2. Activate the "Open test page" button below, which opens the example to test in a new window and runs a script that sets focus on the 'Style/Color' menu item.
  3. Verify the PC Cursor is active by pressing Alt+Delete. If it is not, turn off the Virtual Cursor by pressing Insert+Z.
  4. Open "Style/Color" menu with down arrow.
  5. Navigate to 'Italic' menu item checkbox with down arrow.
  6. Read the 'Italic' menu item checkbox
  7. Using the following commands, Read the 'Italic' menu item checkbox
    • Insert+Tab
    • Insert+Up

Success Criteria

To pass this test, JAWS needs to meet all the following assertions when each specified command is executed:

  1. The name 'Italic' is conveyed
  2. The role 'menu item checkbox' is conveyed
  3. The unchecked state is conveyed
  4. The position of the item and number of items in the 'Font Style ' group are conveyed
  5. The name and role of the 'Font Style' group are conveyed
